Karan Grover ‘s Masterpiece- Residence for Mr.Atul Shroff
Date:2015-10-16

The couple MR&Mrs Shroff are Vadodara’s most envied and admired couple who devoted a lot of time in uplifting the lives of Gujarat’s rural population. The needs of each family member are completely divergent from a carpentry workshop to a chef kitchen. The complexity of diverging. The plan was kept deceptively simple. And the idea was to use natural materials to create a warm inclusive home. The uniqueness of each wing had to be maintained while bringing out a feeling that it was a simple home. The interaction between the space inside and outside is extremely compelling and of great visual appeal.

The driveway is a simple curve wall in brick which screens the outline of the residence.Hot air coming into dinning space is cooled by the bamboo jallis and the pergolas shadowing the indoor space creating a dramatic perspective.

The temple is an individual entity connected inside to the house and outside to the courtyard through a patterned floor in brick. It can accommodate 25- 30 people at times of ceremonies. The serene felling of a temple is set up by the presence of two champa trees in front.Daughter’s bedroom is a complete unit with work platform.pantry and bedroom at mezannine. The space is double height with sloping roof and skylight allowing 100%daylight.The living is an extended ractangle comprising of dinning, library and billiards ares but without any partitions, with allows the space to give a grand feeling. Also the accent lighting along with daylight from courtyard creates an ephemeral setting. The wash rooms of the residence are open to sky and get ample amount of daylight. The floor materials used are kota stone with plaster. The hanging light combines the two levels into one.And the vision then gazes to the sloping roof. The use of transluscent glass bricks in the wash room serves as an interconnection between the indoor spaces and outdoor spaces. The washroom also opens out to the pool. The intricate cornice detailing in brick running along the periphery of the residence adds to the other unique features making it an archetype of its own.
