The construction of the Jaurès recreational center provided an opportunity for the town of Athis-Mons to create a facility for children that adopts an open learning approach, while also helping to alleviate the pressure of urban population growth. The area is characterized by its geographical conditions—a highly fragile alluvial plain situated between the Seine and Orge rivers, making it suitable for significant railway infrastructure development and urban expansion stretching longitudinally from the southwest to the northeast. The area is constrained by numerous conditions and exposed to various urban challenges. Therefore, the construction of the Jaurès school complex will serve as a strategic link between the city and adjacent neighborhoods. The school complex is located in a residential area composed of buildings from different periods and styles. The urban challenge faced by this project is to create a welcoming entrance toward the pedestrian zone and the Notre-Dame church, while also undertaking urban and architectural restructuring—where the recreational center plays a connecting role across different scales.
