Engaged in professional work resume:

Dirk U. Moench was born in S?o Paulo, Brazil, as a son of German parents. After spending his childhood in Brazil, where he grew up in a multicultural, bilingual environment, his family returned to their country of origin. In Germany Dirk visited a high school nearby Frankfurt, and began his studies of architecture and urban design in the capital Berlin.

Due to his exposure to very different cultures already at an early point in his life, his academic interest orbited from the beginning around the diverse interpretations of modern architecture in different parts of the world, in which universal values melt with local heritage and traditions, resulting in original and place - specific buildings. Consequently, Dirk spent his years of academic education travelling, receiving study scholarships at the University of S?o Paulo, Brazil, the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and the Tongji University Shanghai, China, before returning to his Alma Mater, the Technical University Berlin, to obtain his Master’s degree.

Dirk visited China for the first time in the context of his Master’s Thesis, researching at Tongji University Shanghai on historical architecture and urban renewal in fast growing Chinese cities - a work subsequently being published in the renowned German architecture magazine DBZ. Since then he has dedicated a substantial part of his personal and professional life to this country: After working several years as a professional architect for international practices in China as well as in Germany on a number of urban design and large scale architectural projects including the renovation of Frankfurt Airport, he founded the architecture practise INUCE / Switzerland in collaboration with his wife and partner Lin Xi. In the same year they acquired first major projects in Fujian / China and consequently decided to open a local architectural design studio to better monitor their ongoing projects.

Dirk‘s work is characterized by his concern about the effects the current urbanization speed has on urban residents, especially in fast growing developing countries. In it he expresses the hope that architecture can induce a localized healing process to traumatized urban environments, by reinforcing human contact, developing local heritage, and facilitating spiritual experience - thus fulfilling the most essential human needs. He commits to these ideals not only in his commissioned projects, but also through self - funded charitable feasibility studies on subjects of public interest. Already prior to their completion his Chinese projects have received international awards and have been widely published.

Dirk U. Moench is a registered architect at the Chamber of Architects in Hessen, Germany. His career as a practitioner in the fields of architecture and urban design is complemented by his position as Visiting Professor at Fuzhou University, lecturing Architectural and Urban Design, public appearances and speeches on his work and philosophy, and by writing a monthly column titled “Architects Diary” for the Chinese lifestyle and culture magazine “Homeland”.
