Teresa Sapey (Italy)


Teresa Sapey graduated from the Polytechnic Faculty of Turin in 1985 and, soon after, obtained a BA in Fine Arts (BFA Parson School of Design, Paris), specialising in design, development and ergonomics of the work-environment. In 1986, Teresa obtained her recognition and qualification to practice architecture professionally. The same year, Teresa won a scholarship, awarded by the Ministry of Public Instruction of Rome, to attend an MA in the Architecture of Workspaces and also obtained the CEAA (Certificats d’études Approfondies en Architecture) at UPA6, University of Paris – La Villette. In 1990, Teresa founded the Studio, which is named after her, in Madrid. Since 1999 she is a member of the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects, London). Teresa Sapey combines her professional career with teaching; has collaborated with the Faculty of Architecture La Villette in Paris; and, has held a series of conferences and workshops at the Domus Academy in Milan, among others. In addition to this, the architect collaborates as lecturer for Camilo José Cela University (Madrid), with a workshop in plastic research and is also a guest Professor for the MA course in “Design & Architecture” at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, since 2004. In addition to the above, since 1989, when she took part in the first world-wide congress in Architecture of the Working and Commercial Spaces, in Sweden, Teresa Sapey has given various conferences and lectured at several congresses. The architect has also been a guest observer at the Biennale di Architettura, in Venice (2007), and has participated at the first Worldwide Congress of Creativity within the Islamic Community, which was held in Dubai in 2008. The Studio works for various public and private institutions and collaborates with different design and art professionals. In 2004, Sapey actively contributed in the project of the Silken Puerta de America hotel, alongside Zaha Hadid, Norman Foster, David Chipperfield, Jean Nouvel, Ron Arad and Arata Isozaki. In 2005, she won the competition price for the best shop-design in Madrid: Custo Barcelona Flagship Store. In 2008, the studio designed the first ecological and sustainable parking in the world, which is located in Valencia and where it is possible to recharge cars with a very simple electrical connection.
