Winner name:
Qing Wang (Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts), Chun Li (South China Agricultural University), Wanyun De
Introduction:
Yushui Ancient Hot Spring is located in Maoming area of Guangdong province, it is a leisure gathered place for ancient officials and scholars along ancient post road. The Sheraton hotel design highlights traditional courtyard layout and broadens its hierarchy system. However, the challenge is that how to transform the traditional long-term living and courtyard spaces to adapt to contemporary needs. The building is backed by the stone mountain, facing the open land of the valley, overall spatial layout makes full use of the terrain characteristics, and transforming traditional residential courtyards concept into five-depths central courtyards.
The hotel has more than 250 rooms. Designer has chosen a simple-warm interior style and tone. Each room has its ‘small courtyard’ and a private hot spring pool that forms a three-dimensional and multi-level courtyard structure. Public area of the hotel includes lobby, all-day restaurant, meeting room, gym, children's playground, infinity pool, and mid-mountain tea room. The lobby design is fully open to the outside courtyard that blur the building boundary.
