IAI Design Award

IAI Design Award, referred to as "IAI", organized by Asia Pacific Designers Federation (APDF), is a prestigious international competition. As one of the most influential design competitions in the world, the IAI juries will determine the awards based on outstanding design works, the winners of which are from around the world. The IAI Design Award has been regarded as a new global design award with high recognition and values around the world.

The IAI Design Award began as the Asia-Pacific Interior Design Biennial Grand Prix held in 2006. During this period, the award name changed three times. In 2014, it was changed to "IAI Design Award", which was recognized by many authoritative media at home and abroad, such as CCTV who regarded IAI as "the Oscar award in design filed". In 2019, the IAI transformed again, dividing itself into three major sub-awards, including IAI Intelligent Manufacturing Award (IAI+IM), IAI Architecture Award (IAI+A), and IAI Interior Award (IAI+I) and IAI Landscape Award.In 2022, IAI established a completer IAI award setting and evaluation system by adding new award, the IAI Elite Award (IAI+E), which have made IAI be more professional, and have gained higher authority and reputation so that the status of IAI as a global design award established.

The IAI Design Award is awarded to designers, colleges and design institutions that have made outstanding contributions to innovation and sustainability. For the IAI design award winners, IAI will publish a yearbook of winning works, which will be distributed to the public to seek business cooperation. The IAI Design Award covers interior design, architecture and landscape design, intelligent manufacturing design including industrial product design, visual communication and brand design, fashion design, digital intelligence design, lighting design, etc. APDF set up the IAI Design Award in Asia, which aims to play a role as a bridge link to empower design creativity and business, sustainable development of economy and environment. Meanwhile, APDF is also aims to play an connecting role to empower the development of cities and industries. At the same time, APDF engages in looking for the best design cases to demonstrate the creativity and wisdom of designers and the greatest value of design to the public.

IAI Most Creative Award

The IAI Most Creative Award aims to promote and improve the protection of the earth's ecological environment, promote the harmonious coexistence of man and nature, and the concept of society and equality. This award is only awarded to designers who have made great achievements or made creative contributions in the fields of architecture and space design, industrial design and related design, in order to encourage the promotion of change, development and progress of human society through design.

The Most Creative Award is not only the highest honor of the IAI Design Award, but also represents the supreme honor of the winner's country and individual. It is only awarded to one candidate every year. This award does not accept applications and is only through nomination of candidates. The winners are individuals or organizations. The IAI Most Creative Award was launched in 2019. Colombian architect Giankarlo Mazzanti became the first architect to win the award.

IAI Best Design Award

Winning the IAI Best Design Award represents the highest level of design. As the annual award of IAI's highest honor, the award is only awarded to the most outstanding works in the field of architectural space. The winning entries will reflect the designers' core values and innovative capabilities. The list of winners will be announced on the spot at the IAI Design Award ceremony, and the winning designers will be invited to receive the grand prize in person on the stage.

IAI Gold Award

The work with the highest design standards in each category will be awarded the 'IAI Gold Award'. The winners of this award will be invited to personally receive the grand prize at the IAI Design Award ceremony.

IAI Silver Award

In each category, the work next to the Gold Award will be awarded the 'IAI Silver Award'. The winners of this award will be invited to receive the grand prize in person at the IAI Design Award ceremony.

IAI Bronze Award

The works that are next only to the Silver Award in each category will be awarded the 'IAI Bronze Award'. The winners of this award will be invited to receive the grand prize at the IAI Design Award ceremony.

IAI Excellence Award

The works that are next only to the Bronze Award in each category will be awarded the 'IAI Excellence Award'. The winners of this award will be invited to participate in the IAI Design Award ceremony.

Comprehensive Award

IAI Environment Friendly Award of the Year

This award is aimed at those who have reasonable solutions in the life cycle of a range of products, including the use of resources, the manufacture of products, the use of space, and the recycling and reuse of materials, taking full account of the impact of space on the environment. The interior design work embodies the concept of sustainable development and lifestyle with the lowest consumption for the best results.

IAI Best Humanistic Care Award

IAI awards the IAI Best Humanistic Care Award every year, aiming at those design works that have sufficient and sufficient attention to people's welfare and physical and mental health and achieve beneficial and effective results, and those works that can make people maintain a positive attitude and mood, and obtain happiness and happiness experience. Those works that sympathize and care for the marginalized and disadvantaged groups and give them the same material and spiritual enjoyment. IAI Best Design Team of the Year

IAI will select a group of design teams every year to award the honorary title of IAI Best Design Team of the Year to recognize design teams that have made extraordinary achievements in innovation and design performance over the years. This award does not accept applications and is only nominated by the jury members.

IAI Most Socially Influential Award of the Year

The design project should have a exact impact on people's quality of life. Projects will be judged on how they promote healthy and active lifestyles, promote community spirit, effectively use sustainable resources for construction and operation, and promote biodiversity. And contestants also need to show a range of strategies for making a positive contribution to the local economy. The winner of this prestigious award will be invited to receive the award in person at the IAI Design Award ceremony.

IAI Healing Landscape Award of the Year (only for IAI Landscape Design Award)

Healing landscape should pay attention to the change of user psychology, and construction is more economical than large-scale public landscape. The main types include but are not limited to meditation gardens, healing gardens, healing gardens, medical gardens, experience gardens, etc. The winner of this prestigious award will be invited to receive the award in person at the IAI Design Award ceremony.

IAI Jury Special Award (for free)

The IAI Jury Special Award is jointly voted by a panel of juries to recognize and encourage the uniqueness and creativity of the work. It represents the comprehensive ability and exceptional design expression of the winners.

IAI Lifetime Achievement Award (for free)

IAI awards th IAI Lifetime Achievement Award every two years to recognize a professional designer, professor, expert or scholar over the age of 60 who has made outstanding contributions to the field of design (age restrictions may be relaxed under special conditions). The award doesn't accept applying and is only nominated by the IAI jury members.

IAI Architecture Legacy Award (for free)

IAI Architecture Heritage Award recognizes individuals, organizations or groups that have created a lasting legacy with a positive impact on the world through architecture. The target of the collection is the practitioner who has achieved outstanding work results; Pioneers who have made significant contributions to raising awareness of the architecture industry; Or individuals who bring both behavioral change and cognitive enhancement to the architecture industry.

IAI Landscape Legacy Award (for free)

IAI Landscape Legacy Award recognizes individuals, organizations or groups that have created a lasting legacy with a positive impact on the world through landscape. The target of the collection is the practitioner who has achieved outstanding work results; Pioneers who have made significant contributions to raising awareness of the landscape industry; Or individuals who bring both behavioral change and cognitive enhancement to the landscape industry.

IAI Design Award Judging

The IAI Design Awards always uphold the principles of fairness, transparency and independence, and adhere to the professionalism and authority of the judges to fully guarantee the quality of evaluation and fair decisions.

The organizing committee requires the members of the judging panel to make objective and fair decisions for the entries by strictly referring to the judging criteria and ensuring the sharing of knowledge and experience through judging and debating.

The members of the judging panel are experts from all professional fields, and the composition of the judging committee changes from year to year.

IAI Design Award Selection

• The criteria for the selection of design awards are extremely strict, and the selection will be conducted strictly in accordance with the criteria 'qualification through screening and exhibition'.For example, the entries of interior design (the actual entries) are required to be completed in the latest year to be eligible for entry; the entries of architecture are required to be completed in less than three years to be eligible for entry; the entries of industrial products are required to be qualified for entry only in less than two years. At the same time, the competing products must be different from the existing products of the same kind, which puts forward higher requirements for designers;

•The IAI Design Award will be regarded as a symbol of international creativity and design. Winning the award means that the appearance and texture of the product have obtained the most authoritative 'quality assurance', at the same time, the awarded works will be the largest range of promotion and recognition. Therefore, to win the IAI Design Award has become a proud honor for every designer;

• The development of the IAI Design Award has gradually changed from the initial interior design competition to a comprehensive design competition, and has gradually expanded from the Asia-pacific region to the global collection of works. At the same time, the organization of the competition will gradually become the industry’s business promotion agency. The 'IAI Design Award' was founded by Oskar Ho（Mr. He Changcheng  ） in 2006.

IAI Trophy

Since the establishment of the IAI Design Award in 2006, the trophies have changed in shape and material almost every year to embody innovation. Oskar Ho, chairman of the IAI Design Award design the new IAI trophy in 2017, in order to establishes a highly recognizable and unified image of the IAI competition brand, the design concept of which was conceived by himself. At the same time, Mr. Eric Gizard, a famous French designer, was specially invited to be responsible for the sculpt design, and finally a trophy with its own characteristics and award concept was created and appeared at the IAI Awards Ceremony in 2017 where the trophy instantly won the attention of countless designers once the it was unveiled. And then with several round of material updates, the trophy have formed its high-end texture, demonstrating its status as a world-wide design award. With the growing influence of the IAI Design Award, the IAI trophy has become one of the most valuable trophies in the world.

The main colors of IAI trophies are gold and silver, characterizing the simplicity and uniqueness. The main structure is made of three right-angled blocks of different sizes, which looks like a free-falling building. This structure takes use of the "mortise and tenon" , a structure of traditional Chinese architecture, independent units of which combine together without the use of nail to form a high construction, insinuating the growth of IAI from a single interior award to a full range of design awards such as architectural design and industrial design, which demonstrates the highly consistent philosophic thoughts with the essence of Taoist philosophy theories including “man is an integral part of nature” and "one giving birth to two, two giving birth to three, and three giving birth to all things" .
