Professor Fang Xiaofeng has been pondering, exploring, and actively practicing how to establish a disciplinary paradigm for design studies. Based on the comprehensiveness and implementation ability of design studies, he proposes to establish a new paradigm for design disciplines through "practice oriented and research driven" approaches. In his edited works "New Paradigm for Design Research", "New Paradigm for Design Research 2", and "New Paradigm for Design Research 3", he systematically presents excellent research results at home and abroad under the advocacy of the new paradigm for design disciplines, It provides many research perspectives, methods, and paths for design researchers to refer to.

Professor Fang Xiaofeng has always been concerned about the education and dissemination of design thinking. He believes that traditional art forms are the starting and ending points, and the object of creation is the aesthetic object; For environmental art design, environmental relationships are the starting point, form is the ending point, but not the whole, and environmental relationships are the aesthetic object. In addition, Professor Fang Xiaofeng is an active promoter of design ethics research in China, fully utilizing the academic platform of "Decoration" to organize multiple thematic discussions related to ethics, such as elderly design, design care, service design, safety, children's design, and green differentiation. Professor Fang Xiaofeng is also an active disseminator of traditional Chinese culture and design ideas. In 2020, he was invited by CCTV's "Hundred Lectures" program to talk about the second part of "The Lost Palace", "The Garden of Ten Thousand Gardens".
